Toddler with swollen lympnodes?!

momoftwo190 · 16/07/2018 17:34

my baby is 20 months old. A couple of weeks ago my husband discovered two swollen lymph nodes at the base of his neck, kind of where your head/neck meet.

i brought him to the doctors who said they were soft, movable and not fixed to anything which were all good signs, but to be sure would order an ultrasound and blood work. Well we had that completed today and his tests came back great aside from him having slight anemia.

Thing is, he hasn’t been sick in a while the only thing I can think of is he has a head full of mosquito bites.

what is bothering me is that so many ppl state they had normal b/w and u/s and it still ended up being cancer, can anyone hear ease my mind as I’m sick with worry :(

So many people? How many do ypu know personally?

Each and every toddler in the world gets swollen lymph nodes regularly (they're part of the immune system). Very few toddlers get cancer.

Your ds has had his bloodwork done and no signs of any problems, right? So no need to worry.

Go for blood test

I’ve been dealing with this same thing except my sons is hard. His blood count was normal as well and they think he has an infection in his lymph node. However the antibiotics isn’t working so I have to go back Monday for blood work and further testing. If it’s movable and soft they’re usually very healthy. My daughter has had a movable soft one for about three years and she still has it but it has gone down tremendously now that she doesn’t have a lot of baby fat on her neck anymore. Also if they’re no bigger than a inch doctors really don’t see them as a threat unless they continue to grow.

My son had this
After about a week of being on the iron treatment they went down considerably
They only swell when he's really ill with a cold or something

If b/w means blood work , and it was all clear as was an ultrasound, I’d be reassured. Especially if he’s got lots of bites on his head that he’s dealing with. If it’s lymphoma you’re worried about, it would normally start with a single lump. It would be fixed and rubbery. It sounds like your GP has taken your concerns seriously and acted appropriately.

Head full of mosquito bites is the likely cause. Lymph nodes at the base of the skull 1) are usually due to a problem on the scalp (nits, cradle cap, eczema etc), and 2) feel bigger than the same nodes anywhere else, as they sit over a bony ledge, instead of sitting in squidgy bits.
