Hello, I have a 5 week old little boy who i a.m. combination feeding (he has one bottle of formula about 2oz a day). He sleeps well in the day having naps with 1.5/2 hour awake periods in between, every evening about 7pm he starts to get really fussy and there never seems to be an obvious reason why, he's fed changed and burped and will progress to get more and more worked up with nothing soothing him when he's like that, he normally then refuses to even breastfeed and just screams and screams, it's so horrible to see him get so upset and my husband and I get really distressed. The doctors have said maybe it is colic and other people have suggested he is overtired but he is sleeping the apparent right amount in the day so I'm confused, do you think this is colic and if so do you have an tips for what I can do to try and help him? Thank you in advance Smile

If he’s having one bottle of formula a day, what time are you giving this OP and have you tried going a couple of days without offering it to see if things improve?

My baby was like this from 2 weeks, but all day if he wasn't asleep! He's got a lot better now but I found evenings were worst. I was ebf at first and then moved to formula at 6 weeks and was the same. Doctors were never interested. He's much more settled now, and I was convinced there was something more but it was just him getting used to digesting. Does he have any other symptoms? I've moved him to hipp organic and use dentinox and he's like a different baby. I found when I was ebf certain foods made him worse so maybe look at what you're eating and if it's worse when you've eaten certain things?

I found in the evenings when he peaked a few things that helped were moving him to a different room if he was inconsolable, walking laps round the house doing tiger in the tree hold, bath colic massage and swaddle lower half. As long as I distracted him he would stop. He still has his grizzly days but not as bad but if I do these things he'll settle.

It can be so draining and awful So I really feel for you, just takes a few tries to see what works.

Just thought of another thing, lots of babies are having huge problems with Aptamil and Cow & Gate currently. Is this the formula you are giving?

Also, have you tried getting him to sleep earlier in the evening?

@BigCarrot yeah so far we've found he can be distracted by walking up and down the stairs with him over your shoulder and you might be right about the food thing so I will watch what I eat and see if that makes a difference! It's so draining but thank you for your advice!

@JiltedJohnsJulie he's having his bottle at night normally after one of these 'episodes' but I did think last night I will give him just Breastmilk today and see if that makes a difference

@JiltedJohnsJulie he has the HIPP organic formula at the moment and we do try to get him off to sleep from about 6.45/7pm and normally his episodes go until about 12/1am until we can get him to sleep sometimes he will cat nap while you walk him up and down the stairs but only for 5/10 mins here and there before crying again. It's as if he has pain that wakes him up. Sad
