Calpol and nurofen

Remind me as I always forget this- you can give calpol and nurofen in staggered doses can’t you? Calpol not touching a temp here and wondering how long we need to leave it before giving nurofen.

She’s 4 and has a very sore and red viral throat.

Thanks!

Yes you can.

I always write the times down because I think I found an ibuprofen that was to be given with six hours between doses, and the paracetamol was four hours.

Yes you can. Alternate the doses according to the instructions for her age.

Calpol and nurofen are entirely different medicines and don’t affect one another. It’s best to stagger them so you’re having something regularly rather than leaving a big gap. But you can give both together and it won’t cause any harm.

If she hasn’t had any ibuprofen, give her some now. You alternate to make sure the pain relief is spread out, so there aren’t any periods where they are in pain but can’t have any.
