DS 10 hasn't had the Pox

Just that really - he's never had chicken pox and I'm concerned that the older he gets, the worse it will be if he does get it.

Can I get him vaccinated at this age?

Is it a free NHS vacc or would I need to go private.

Thanks!

I don't know, but am watching with interest because DS (12) also hasn't had it, despite being exposed to it repeatedly.

I think they can be tested to see if they're immune? (E.g. had it so mildly no one noticed).

I came into contact with CP several times over the years but didn't catch it until I was 15. I don't think I have felt so ill since and it's been over 30 years.
I would investigate the vaccination.

I read somewhere what some areas will vaccinate if you haven't had it by 12.

It's widely available if you're willing to pay, usually two doses at about £50 a go.

I'd vaccinate if you can afford it, even though it's thought that a booster might be necessary later on.

Catching it as a teenager or adult can be grim.

I've never had it - or at least I've never had symptoms. DD had it when she was 4 and I spent a full week with her so I'm assuming I'm going to be fine! Not saying this is the case with your DS, but its a possibility if he's been exposed.

Definitely vaccinate (although I think the GP can test to see if your child has anti bodies). It's not cheap, but it's not insane either - I think about £100 in total for two injections. I plan to vaccinate DD if she hasn't had it by the time she starts reception.

I would wait a bit longer maybe just before teens . I have never had chicken pox I'm 25

DH had chicken pox aged 30 and it was grim. I'd get vaccinated.
