Amoxicillin dose for 8 year old does this right

Dd has a suspected sinus infection. Prescribed amoxicllin 250mg suspension. She has to take 2 5ml spoons 3 times a day. Leaflet implies usual dose is less. Is this correct ?

Sorry that should read 2x 5ml ie 10 ml 3 times a day.

Assuming you have the 250 mg/ 5 mL suspension, that's 500 mg three times a day which is correct in the BNF.

Is it 250mg in 5ml? And what is she taking it for? Really though you’d be better checking with the dr or the pharmacist.

Thank you sparklefoot. Yes it is 250mg/5ml suspension. I would call surgery but usually difficult to speak to GP and I'm worried they will be annoyed me questioning me, I just wanted someone to tell me that it was an acceptable dose.

Ask the pharmacist if it's a usual dose if you don't want to ask the gp.

It is an acceptable dose for your 8 yr old for sinusitis but if you’re still worried ask your pharmacist

My 8 year old has just had the same dose for an ear infection, the doctor said it was on the higher end of the scale but needed. Just keep them topped up with pro biotic yogurt in between to help steer off any potential tummy upsets.

The doses of oral amoxicillin doubled about a year ago so that dose is right with the current bnf.
