Awful happy rash

My 9m/o has had the most excruciating nappy rash for the last two weeks. It just appeared overnight, she’d never had it before. It’s bright red with sore patches that don’t seem to heal. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or related but she also has a bad tummy lately, v frequent poos. I saw a GP who wasn’t very interested but prescribed us some steroid/antifungal cream... also been using that yellow cream everyone recommends, Wileda nappy cream, sudocrem, the lot! Plenty of bare-bum time but he bad tummy means this is perilous! My previously happy, chilled baby is now permanently moaning, no doubt in pain. Does this sound like normal nappy rash or something worse?

Has she been on antibiotics lately? They can cause a sore bottom, but metabolism should clear that up.

Otherwise I’d wonder about thrush. I think I bought some over the counter canasten when my DDs nappy wash wouldn’t heal and that sorted it out.

It does sound fungal. The steroid and fungal cream should clear it up. It’s important to keep using a fungal cream for about seven days after the rash has gone.

Your HV might be more use than the GP. They are much better with things like nappy rash and can prescribe.
