DS 8 - Boils in groin and inside leg.

My DS has had a few books now. His first one was particularly bad on the inside of his leg, just above the knee. He's had a few inside his thighs where they rub and now one in the groin area. The first was that sore he had antibiotics, now he has cream from the dr.

He is a little overweight which I'm trying to work on and I have a sneaky feeling that this is the cause of these.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Did they use a dipstick in his urine?

weekendninja · 24/06/2018 22:21

No Banana, they didn't.

If there are recurrent boils might be worth going back to GP and asking them to rule out sugar in urine. Unlikely to be but worth ruling out diabetes.

BananaHarvest · 24/06/2018 22:28

If they test and it’s fine ask about antibacterial skin wash to prevent boils in first place.

weekendninja · 24/06/2018 22:31

Thanks Banana, diabetes is one thing I we thinking about.

I'm finding it pretty hard to have complete control over his diet as his dad and I live separately but this may encourage change.

Little overweight? Or very? A few extra pounds shouldn't cause boils.
Have you been back to the GP? Underlying issues ruled out? Ingrowing hairs how old is he?

weekendninja · 24/06/2018 22:38

He's definitely not very overweight. He's wearing age 10-11 clothing and is tall too. He's very active but just seems to hold onto weight very easily compared to his brother who's 10.

I'm going to go back to the gp. His skin is quite sensitive to washing powders so I'm wondering if he's prone to skin irritation and things like that.

Sorry I've just seen he's 8. Try RTFT why don't I!!
I would go back to the GP In case there was an underlying issue. Could be an underlying reason. Does he have any other skin issues?

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2018 22:41

X post!
Are they boils then or more like infected eczema?

weekendninja · 24/06/2018 22:48

Not eczema.

The poor thing has molloscom contagiosum too on his bum, although I don't think this is linked.

His dad and grandfather used to get (and probably still does) jock itch so I'm wondering if he's prone to getting heat related issues in that region.

As of tomorrow I'm going to clamp down heavily with his sugar intake in the hope that that may help. It can do no wrong I guess.

Hydradenitis supprativa? I have this and it usually affects groin or armpits or both
Hibiscrub or dettol soap helps a little

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2018 22:52

I wonder if there's something microbial living on the skin that means boils happen if he scratches etc? Skin scrape?
I have no medical experience or knowledge. But lots of eczema and other skin issues! Blush

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2018 22:53

Ollivander that's the name I was trying to remember.
Or an infected molluscum contagiosum?

GreenTulips · 24/06/2018 22:55

Use this for the molluscum - works in a couple of weeks
Lol for chaffing cream and use baby bum cream in the mean time
Buy non bio powder - the cheaper ones have less irritants in them

DS 8 - Boils in groin and inside leg.
Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 24/06/2018 22:55

Add a few drops of tea tree oil to the bath water in the meantime whilst you look for an underlying cause , it is very antiseptic so should help

blueskypink · 24/06/2018 23:01

Ollivander - I've never come across anyone else with hydredenitis supp. Though I guess that's because it's not visible and not something people talk about! Took a dermatologist to diagnose mine. Awful isn't it?

But anyway, op, what about folliculitis? My ds had nasty acne/boil like lumps on his inner thighs from knee to groin and that's what it turned out to be. Cleared up really quickly with some cream from the gp (that's the second gp he saw as the first had no idea what it was)

Ollivander84 · 24/06/2018 23:13

blue - nobody in RL. I'm lucky, my groin ones are v v mild usually. I have had one in my armpit that causes issues and plastic surgery on it twice as the wound never healed
