Six month old just rolled out of my arms and crashed to the floor - not sure what to do!?

May be really overreacting. DS basically rolled out of my arms, I managed to keep ahold of him till he launched himself onto the floor. He probably fell 3ft at most onto carpet, with a thick rug on top. Fell sort of onto one side of his body, head first.

Obviously he cried, now he's rolling around and blowing raspberries. He seems fine, no swelling or obvious signs of injury. Still wiggling around. A bit grizzly but I'm not sure if that's just where he's teething.

I'm just not sure if I should take him to the doctors or just keep an eye on him. Any higher, or on a hard floor and I wouldn't hesitate, but he seems so fine in himself.

I feel awful. Nothing like this has ever happened Sad I just want a second opinion. A friend has social services investigating her after she dropped her baby carrying it in a bouncy chair and I know this is totally different but i can't help but worry about that too.

He will be just fine. The fact that he cried immediately, didn't lose consciousness, didn't vomit etc are all great signs. He's possibly grizzly due to a sore head or shoulder etc from the bump itself but nothing to be overly concerned about. You just need to keep a close eye for 24 hours, any vomiting or drowsiness etc then get him seen to. My ds aged 3 has had many tumbles and has had to be seen for vomiting from head bang etc so I'm just remembering what A&E docs told us to look out for. I know it's a massive worry, he'll forget about it much quicker than you ever will. Just keep an eye for 24hrs and then try to forget about it there after. X

If he hit his head first from a height greater than his body and is only 6 months old then I really think you need to be calling 111 and they would probably tell you to go to a&e.

I would go to a and e. You won't be the only there tonight with this. He sounds fine but it's a significant fall for a very young child.

All three of mine managed to launch themselves onto the carpet from about 2.5 ft when they were babies (wriggling off the edge of the sofa) ... we kind of got used to it. If you're worried at all go and see the doctor ... I think they're generally happy to see you if there's even a small concern at that age.

I agree with the first comment above.
He cried straight after, nothing hard touched his temple or fontanelle, his eyes are normal and he's acting like himself... he's probably grand.
If he is eating normally enough and not getting sick, as well as the above, I personally would not worry at all.

All three of mine have rolled off the bed at that age. Cried and then just got on with it. They were all fine.
