12m baby head swelling up

I air travel with my LO a lot and never had any problems. Until today we flew from London to Berlin, after which we noticed that a very obvious swelling up on his right side of the head, pretty much covering half of his scalp.

I checked his scalp and it does not look any difference than a normal head. But when I touch it, it feels soft and weird, like someone pumped his head with water or air. He is not in any discomfort and is happily playing now.

I am concerned that it could be the air pressure change. He was sleeping in my arm while we landed, right side of the head resting in my arm, which became swelling up afterwards. I am not sure if it is related.

Please help!! I am concerned even though he looks okay now. Please let me know if it is normal. Thanks!

Get checked out immediately please!

RandomMess · 02/06/2018 12:58

Just get him checked out, why wouldn't you? When are you next due to fly?

Bodear · 02/06/2018 12:58

Why would you post on here instead of going to a doctor? Get him checked out properly.

ScarlettDarling · 02/06/2018 12:59

I think you know you need to get this checked out asap. Hope it turns out to be nothing, but you need to get him looked at.

Update:

Hi everyone. Thanks for your help. I know it was a long time ago but just want everyone to know that the boy is okay. We took him to the ER in Berlin and everything was okay. He had a slight skull fracture, which may sounds scary but there was nothing wrong in his behavior, neither there was anything we could do but to wait for the bump to go away.

The doctor said that there was some blood under his skull that got piled up which was the main reason of the bump (and why it felt soft). Moreover, the air travel has worsened it and makes it bigger because of the pressure change. As long as the baby was eating well, sleeping well and acting normal, there isn't really anything to worry about. Although as a mother I worried my guts out, but if anyone ever has a similar situation, I hope I can at least offer some comfort for those who are looking for help. It's quite a normal thing to happen for baby before 2 years old.

It took the bump almost 2 weeks to completely go away, during which our little boy is perfectly fine. He learned how to walk a month ago and inevitably bumped his head several times, but we know how to deal with that afterwards. Smile
