Behavioural development referral

My eldest son (just turned 9) has been displaying signs of ADD/ADHD for some time now. When I initially spoke with my GP, they advised that I needed a letter from his teacher to do a referral. His teacher at the time was pretty useless, and wouldn't write anything for me, so that was the end of it.

However, his 'symptoms' have gotten more severe, and we've reached the point where he really needs support (and so do I!). The school's SENCO is on board with me, and said she'd be happy to write anything the GP needed. Went back to the GP on Friday and she advised that I need to get letters from as many 'authority figures' in his life if possible. The referral can apparently be kicked back if there isn't enough 'evidence' for the referral.

Has anyone experienced this kind of referral recently? I've looked through the forums and all the posts on ADHD diagnosis seem to mention CAMHS referrals, but that hasn't been mentioned to me. I'm concerned I won't have enough for the referral, so it would be good to know how much is actually needed.

Thanks in advance :)
