Creosote concerns

We were outside with my newborn baby and started smelling strong fumes, turns out it’s a fence being coated with creosote!

LO must have been inhaling the fumes for a good few hours outside, and the whole house smelt of it. With it being a hot day we had all the windows open so it must have come through, and even with them all shut it was very strong.

The fence is right outside our house- should I be worried about baby breathing in the fumes? I’ve had a look online and it just says awful things so need a realistic perspective....

We did go out as soon as we realised the fumes were still lingering but it was a good half a day exposure Sad

Your baby will be absolutely fine.

Ummm.... your baby will be fine. Is this your first baby by any chance?

Yep! No I don’t have issues with anxiety generally, she’s just so little and had breathing difficulties anyway as she was preemie so just a little concerned

Creosote has been banned to the general public since 2003, so if your neighbo has been doing that you can report it.
I suspect our neighbour used creosote a few years back, but when I confronted him he denied it.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it as we all grew up with creosote painted fences.
