I'm new to this so I don't really know what I'm doing but any help/advice would be very appreciated... My baby boy is 10 weeks old and he will only have a dirty nappy every few days and when he doesn't pass a stool he will be crying a lot which isn't like him and I was wondering if anyone had any advice to help him? I currently use gripe water and that helps him sometimes.

Breast or formula fed? Is the stool still soft? Could just be his normal bowel routine. My 2 also went 2-3 days between poos but it was normal for them

Try tummy massage and bicycle legs.
Also depends on source of milk.

He is formula fed

Are you making the formula up correctly? Water first then adding powder? Adding water to powder makes it more protein dense which some babies struggle with.

MollyDaydream · 26/05/2018 10:02

Really boho? How does that work? I've never heard anything about water creating proteins?

dementedpixie · 26/05/2018 10:07

It doesn't add proteins it just means there is not sufficient water for the amount of powder added so makes it more concentrated. I also measured in mls rather than oz as that gave slightly more water too. (30mls for each scoop).

MollyDaydream · 26/05/2018 10:51

I always measure the water and then add to the powder - if you do water first the steam makes the powder stick to the scoop. It's still the correct amount of water.

NannyR · 26/05/2018 10:55

It's the correct amount if you measure the water then add it, but if you put 4scoops of powder into the bottle then add water to the 4oz mark, you've only added around 3oz of water which makes the formula more concentrated which can cause health problems. I think that's what the previous posters were getting at.
