Hello

I have a skinny 8 year old son.

When he turns his head, I can see a lymph node on the side of his neck.

Is it normal to see lymph nodes in skinny children?

Thank you x

Yes, it’s very common for you to see lymph nodes in the neck of young children.

If you are concerned that it is getting bigger, your child is unwell or it looks red/swollen then see your GP.

My 7 year old boy had this. He is also quite skinny. The doctor said they come and go and not to worry (it went) x

I'm no medic and this needs checking obviously but I was the same as a child. Huge visible lump many trips to the dr as a child and adult always the same result.
I'm now 38 with a massive lump in my neck!

I have had this. So have my children. Especially during /for a while after illness.

It's always best to use that term "better to be safe than sorry" only your GP can tell you for sure and will need to see it with his/her own eyes, I'm sure it's nothing but like I say, always better to be safe than sorry.

Hi

Thank you.

I do have severe health anxiety and Im always on high alert.

It's only when he moves his neck to the side I see it No one else has noticed it, just me and my beady eyes.

It's tiny, but as I said, Im always looking out for things. xx

my 14 month old has the same. it first appeared after a bout of tonsilitus. I took him to the doctors a few times as it wasn't going down. eventually they reffered us for an ultrasound. At that we were told the lump is actually very small it's just near the surface of the skin which makes it visible. They said if the xhild is generally well in themself then it's usually nothing to worry about. I would still go to the doctors though to hear it from a professional. Having the ultrasound really reassured me but I think it had been present for 2 months before that point. Still got it now at 18 months!

My 8 year old is the same, its just on one side but very visible sometimes and other times not as much. The Dr said it was fine and normal.
