My pharmacist gave me hay fever tablets (cetirizine hydrochloride) for chicken pox and a cream, is that normal? I thought I'd have to take paracetamol

It's good to have some paracetamol handy IF you get high fever, yes.

... suppositories are better for getting into you,if you have fierce fever & can't keep fluid down.

But DO NOT USE IBUPROFEN with chicken pox - increased risk of serious skin infections.

A cream to stop itching is all that is usually needed.

But do you think it was a mistake that they gave me hay fever tablets?

A sedating antihistamine such as piriton is better for chicken pox itch. Cetirizine is non sedating

Anti histamines are to help with itching
