Tonsil and adenoid removal

Can anyone share experiences of their children having their tonsils and adenoids removed? My 3.5 year old will be having them for severe sleep apnea and it hit me like a bus as I wasn't expecting it

My dd had hers out for the same reason about 4 years ago. Are you currently in hospital? Dd had a sleep study that confirmed the sleep apnoea we then had to stay in hospital until the op. It was a bank holiday weekend so we waited about 4 days for surgery. She was taken to surgery think it took about an 1hour, I cried like a baby. She was supposed to go to hdu after the surgery but they had no beds so she went to ICU. I'm not sure if that is common practice after this surgery as dd has underlying health problems so could have been a precaution from that.

I think most children get home within a day or so, then go back for a 2nd sleep study 4/6 weeks later.

Dd still has sleep apnoea caused by her disability so is now using CPAP but that is not common in children who have no other issues.

I hope the surgery goes well for you. I think as parents we feel more scared than the children. Dd remembers being in hospital but only the fun bits, the ice cream and new dolls.

My then 6 yr old had hers out last May and my 4 yr old nephew had his out 2 months ago. Both were fine. My DD had a sore throat and ear pain (throat pain felt in the ear) for about a week afterward. Getting her to eat was tough but we made it through with support from calpol. My nephew sailed through with barely a complaint.

Thank you.

My dd is never bothered by pain so I am hoping it will be the same this time. I am most concerned that she is anemic and has high INR levels and her anaesthetic last week she took 35 minutes of screaming hysteria to calm down afterwards. I'm worried if she does the same she is going to make herself bleed 🙈
