Too much sun?

DD5 has been playing outside today, mostly in the sun and she kept taking her hat off. She has been drinking, not loads but enough. She’s had a good appetite all day and has been full of beans. She’s just woken now though (at about 1030) and been very sick. Her temp is normal and she’s normal in every other way although slightly shaky. Could this be sunstroke?

It could be, does she have a fever at all?

crumble82 · 07/05/2018 23:26

It could have just been a random thing but keep an eye on her. Keep her sipping (not gulping) water and look out for any other symptoms like headache, fever, confusion or shallow breathing. Hope she feels better soon, sunstroke is awful.

How long was she out for?

crumble82 · 07/05/2018 23:41

We were outside most of the day. She was in and out of shade, although she was definitely out of the sun between 1230-130.

Apart from the one vomiting incident she seems ok and is back asleep. Hopefully it was a one off. Does sunstroke have a delay or does it happen while they’re in the sun and getting hot?

When I had sunstroke the nausea kicked in while I was getting ready for dinner that evening, so yeah it can take a couple hours for symptoms to show. Does your DD have a sunburn? Keep her hydrated. Hope she feels better tomorrow.

No sunburn. I’ve just checked on her again and she feels slightly warm but her room is 25degrees so that probably isn’t helping. She’s sound asleep so hopefully she’ll feel better in the morning.

For anyone interested it turns out it was a stomach bug because I’ve got it too Blush. It was just a 24hr thing so she’s fine now.
