Scarlet Fever

My daughter was diagnosed with scarlet fever over the weekend. She's refusing to take her antibiotics and I've tried everything. Going to call the doctor today to see if they can provide an alternative in order for her to get better. I'm just so scared she's going to get worse. The thing is she's eating fine, drinking almost as normal and doesn't have a temperature. She has few spots and more a rash in her downstairs area. What is everyone else's experience with this please? How fast did your kids recover? Thank you

Antibiotics are important and hopefully you can get a different one. The standard one is vile. My son actually got prescribed Amoxicillin which I was surprised about but that may be an option.

My 2 both had Scarlet Fever a few months ago. My eldest had a sore throat which was gone by the time she had a slight rash. That never got very bad and she was fine before she even started the ab’s.
She never even saw the Dr but was treated as a precaution because my youngest had it.
Again he wasn’t particularly bad at all. Slight temp (not at all highfor him) and the rash.
His did linger in that he got a high temp again free a week and then 10 days but really not poorly at all.

My 3&5 yo both had it over Christmas and we caught strep throat from them which was agony. They had it really bad actually, high fevers, rashes, vomiting. Hopefully it'll not be that bad for your dd, ours was bad from the onset though.

Re antibiotics, my dd also refuses to take meds so the only solution we came up with after trying everything was to get the capsules and sprinkle the inside on ice cream with some syrup. and sprinkles. your dd should be able to get them depending on her age and weight, the capsules come in certain doses and my dd was a few months off the higher dose but going by her weight she was able to get them. Hth Thanks

Thank you both. My daughter was only sick 3 times all in the one night and the next day she was back to her normal self but then the rash appeared. She keeps saying she doesn't need medicine because she feels fine. She's 4 and a half but very tall for her age so I'm just praying she can have a tablet, I think she'd prefer that.

My dd1 and dd2 had scarlet fever very mildly and didn't have antibiotics prescribed as they were so little ill.
