my 16 month old has been taking oral laxatives for nearly a year. He was first prescribed cosomcol pediatric at 6 months then he was given movicol and now laxido which he has been on for nearly 4 months does this seem normal to you? i'm getting concerned with how long he has been on these and i'm almost certain that he is dependent on them now.
Also i was told i could treat the laxido like the others dose wise but ive now been told that he should only be having one sachet and ive been giving him three.

I would be asking for more investigations into WHY he is constipated. Movicol etc don't actually tend to cause dependency as they're osmotic rather than spasmodic.
Get checked for Hirshprungs or Anorectal Malformation....my DS was diagnosed with and Anorectal malformation at 9 months but it could easily have carried on longer due to the doctors insistence that it was just constipation.

I've been using a product called nutrigen inulin. It's not a laxative like but it contains prebiotics which will help to keep his bowel movement going
