Fluctuating temperature

DD came down with a high temperature on Monday and since then has been really lethargic and off her food. Yesterday morning she was sick twice and this morning she's had one bout of diarrhea. Her temp seems to be low in the morning and then build as the day goes on, peaking at night. Is this normal when kids are ill, or does it 'mean' anything? She's been refusing medicine since she got sick. Thanks

It sounds like a stomach virus. Some fluctuation in temp is normal. Get her in to see a doctor if she hasn't been able to keep down fluids for 24 hours or her temp exceeds 39 degrees C.

How old is she?

Thank you. She's drinking quite a lot today. It has been over 39, but is around 38 now. She's just turned 3.

Good. Dehydration is the major risk in a situation like this. Do you have something like Pedialyte in the UK? It's a prepared drink, with fruit flavors that also supplies electrolytes that get depleted with this kind of illness.

If she isn't clearly on the mend by Saturday I'd consider see the doc with her.

Good luck to you and your DD. Smile

Yes we've got something called Dioralyte, so I'll try getting her to have some of that.

Thanks for your advice, I'll see how she how she goes today/tomorrow. The days feel so long when you're up all night with them too!

Oh, so sorry that she's been keeping you up too. That is a long day!

Mine are 16 and 18 now, so that's a whole different set of challenges.
