Appendicitis

Can anyone give me some advise please. My 12 year old son has had ongoing abdominal pain, and shooting pains to the right hand side off and on for months. These are accompanied with a general feeling unwell and very low energy. The episodes are happening more often about twice a week on average. They last anything from 3 hours to 10 hours each time. Early this week he had an ultrasound scan which confirmed an inflamed appendix. The surgeons refused to operate as they now think he could have crohn's disease. Any advise much appreciated.

If it's true appendicitis, I'm amazed they haven't taken it out.

At 16 I started getting a "grumbling appendix" as it was first termed. This went on for years and I was in and out of hospital where they called it "mesenteric adenitis". In between attacks, I was fine. Then at 19, I collapsed in a lecture and was blue lighted. Emergency appendectomy meant no keyhole so I've got the classic scar but it was apparently on the brink of bursting.

This is a lot of waffle to say, please don't accept them leaving it if it really is an inflamed appendix.

Thanks for the reply. I've now gone back to the GP and they are going to track down the ultrasound. The antibiotics have kicked in today and it's the first day in a while that he is more or less pain free. Keeping everything crossed that we will have something done soon.
