Ammonia smelling urine?

Ok possibly a silly question but I'm a paranoid new mum...

so I know urine contains ammonia...

But recently DS's (two weeks old) nappies have really begun to stink of it when I change him. Is this normal? Is he ill somehow?

Could be the nappies themselves as some of them can smell

dementedpixie that's actually an excellent point. Using cloth nappies so possibly need to change how im washing them...
