Optibac Probiotics for Babies, for me or DS?

My DS is 4.5 months had has always suffered with terrible trapped wind at night and it really distrubs his sleep. On the odd night he has no wind (I never know what mystical thing makes for a better night) he sleeps deeply and peacefully with 2 wake ups for quick feeds and settles back well. On a bad night he cries and thrashes throughout and wakes many times.

I had three weeks of very strong antibiotics when he was tiny, orally in intravenously, due to retained placenta, plus many other drugs in hospital due to haemorrhages.

After various bits of advice I've bought some Opibac Probiotics for Babies to try but I'm unsure if I should give them directly to him or take them myself in a hope the benefits will pass to him as he's EBF?

Does anyone have any similar experience or advice?

No they wouldn't pass on to him if you have them, probiotics are absorbed by the gut not the blood
I ve been giving probiotics to my kids since about 3 mo, they don't do any harm but always good to let HV know (not that they'd do anything tbh)
They are great for yeast and gut issues give them on empty stomach, only thing is that they could make him constipated so just give little at a time and watch what the progress is like

Thanks OP, I was wracking my sleep deprived brain as to how they'd do DS any good if I took them but the instructions offer that as an option.... I'll try a quarter of of sachet for DS initially and see how we go. Poor boy nearly always has watery green nappies so hopefully this will help. I'm already dairy free for him and it's not helped much. GP and HV haven't been much help and it's just so upsetting seeing my poor little chap crying in his sleep night after night.

Yes it's probably his gut flora bless him
We had similar and actually the best probiotic we tried was from Klaire labs but bit on the expensive side, so start with optibac and see how it goes x

Hi @dotcottonismyidol did the probiotics help? Currently having the same issue with my 4 month old, he wants to feed every hour at night to push the wind through, am taking expensive probiotic myself but wondering if I should give him one?

BobbyDazzler27 · 07/02/2021 20:21

Hi @CassSass did you end up giving your little boy some probiotics in the end?
I have started my 14 month old daughter on some and they seem to be making a massive difference

@BobbyDazzler27 hi could you tell me which probiotic you used and how soon you seen positive results (if you can remember) my little girl is having sore tummy’s that seem to ease after farting so I’m wondering If probiotics will help her. Also do they make your baby worse before they get better?

thanks

Hi @Eimz90
Yes of course. We used optibac probiotics. They did a kids one which was a powder and I put it in her bottle every day.
To be honest I can't remember how quickly the issue was resolved , but I remember being impressed with them and they've got lots of benefits too.
I did find that they really helped. I haven't used them in a while though xx
