Circumcision

I have a son that was circumcised as a young child due to having a tight foreskin. since he was 8 he had been very upset that I let this happen. he is now 22 and being circumcised has affected his whole life. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask if there is an alternative before agreeing to have your sons circumcised. I was not offered an alternative course of action but there are things that can be done instead of mutilating a young child sexual organ.
My sons feel that he has been violated by the doctors that carried out the procedure. I hope before any parent makes the choice to circumcise they check out the growing number of men that have issues with this.

Do you think your son should speak to someone about how he feels. I know many people who have had to have this done and it's not been an issue growing up.

What was the an alternative? I’m interested in this as my father and brother were both circumscribed and my maternal grandfather, all for medical reasons and I worry if my son will need the same.

I hope your son can find peace with this

If he’s that upset about it, there are ways to “regrow” a foreskin, basically by slowly stretching the remaining skin. There are videos on Youtube that demonstrate the technique.

I don't think you were wrong. It was for a medical reason.

I think your son should speak to someone about why he feels so effected by it.

Alternatives to circumcision for tight foreskin are either using steroid cream to thin the skin and make it easier to retract, or doing a dorsal slit, although this is cosmetically not v attractive.

My son is getting help from a sexual health counsellor he just wanted parents to know that there are alternatives such as steroid creams and he just wanted parents to be aware that it can affect your sons sexual performance he has researched extensively and he has found www.foregen.org/who are doing research into re growing the foreskin. They are based in Italy and are making good progress in the subject.

Our local surgeons (quite rightly!) won't operate unless steroid creams have been tried, and where possible will do a stretch or a slit, rather than an actual circumcision. Sadly sometimes an actual circ is what is needed.
