Please help! 8 month DD so unwell.

DD is 8 months old and got a bad cold/virus nearly 2 weeks ago (we all had it) after a while she seemed to be getting better but the last few days she’s gone back to square one and is as bad as she was at the beginning.

She’s crying and whining constantly, puking every night in her sleep because of the violent coughing fits she has. She’s finding it hard to eat and drink because everything triggers a coughing fit. She’s extremely snotty (was clearing up but back again) and just generally very unwell. We took her in and doctor had a quick look at her and said she’ll be fine but I’m really worried somethings not quite right.

She’s my second DD and my eldest has immunity issues and at this age got an infection that kept recurring and was in and out of hospital so I guess I’m slightly paranoid.

I steam her, put snuffle babe, give her calpol when I feel she needs it. Give her lots of liquid. Not sure if I need her to be checked out thoroughly or just wait it out?

Any advice welcome I’m so worried :(

I think I would try and get an out of hours appointment, just because of not eating or drinking and no sleep. Saying that what would your chance be if you waited till Monday and rang your doctor's?

Have you got a humidifier? It made such a big difference when we started using one when our daughter is poorly.

Definitely go back to the ooh gp, also really recommend difflam spray, soothes the throat when it’s really bad like ask. Ask the dr about it when you see them

Def see out of hours if you're worried, if you're concerned about her breathing at all ask them if she needs any steroids (eg inhaler or dexamethasone for croup if her cough is bad)

Did you doc listen to her chest? Are they sure she doesn't have bronchiolitis?

Obviously it may all be fine but we have been in a similar situation so many times with DS (now 18 months) and so many trips to A&E!!

Hope she feels better soon

Thank you so much for all your replies

We don’t have a humidifier, will look into getting one.

Doctor did check her chest and said it’s not an infection and she’ll be fine. I just think it’s strange that she was recovering as expected then suddenly went straight back to square one. Reminded me of my eldest and the issues she had.

I’ll see how she is tomorrow and play it by ear, ideally would like to wait until the weekend is over and take her back on Monday but if she’s still really bad will have to get her seen over the weekend I guess.
