Constipation

My 13 week old baby is constipated. Even though he goes every day. It is difficult for him to go and extremely hard with a strong odour. He is on lactose 2/3 times a day. He has being like this for a couple of months now. When I took him back to the doctors they just said to give him the lactose 3 times a day. The pass couple of days around bedtime he has being screaming, really difficult to settle and I'm not sure what to do. I can get him to sleep but not long after he is in his cot he wakes up scr5waming again. Also has an umbilical hernia (which can be pushed in)
He is on cow & gate anti reflux milk.

Has anyone else gone through this?

Cow and Gate anti reflux milk is a thickened formula. Thickened formulas cause/worsen constipation.

If he was not constipated before the anti reflux milk, they need to change his anti reflux treatment to something that does not cause constipation (omeprazole is a good one).

If he was constipated even before the anti reflux milk, then he probably has cows milk protein intolerance, and would then need either a hydrolysed (partly broken down) or possibly an amino acid based (totally broken down) formula prescribing instead.

If they won't try either of the above, I suggest begging for a referral to paediatrics.

Had him back at the docs and they have now taken him off lactose and put him on laxido instead
