Childhood ticks

My son is 14 and from an early age has displayed ticks such as rolling eyes, shrugging shoulders clearing throat etc all from shoulders up and very low level. One specific tick would just start it would occur for a few weeks then stop then soon a different one would come. I took him to the doctors they said it was childhood ticks and he’d grow out of them. He would have periods without and these periods increased but the last couple of years they have became more regular his latest being that he would stretch his neck he says he can’t help it and to others it looks like he is just having a stretch he also squints sometimes. It’s not affecting his life as such and he’s not wanted to go to the doctors about it until now as he says it’s starting to really hurt his neck. Stress definitely makes it worse. I’m making the appointment but just would like to hear of any similiar experiences especially of older kids how it developed and if it stopped. Thanks
