High temperature in 2yo?

Was at the docs this morning and she just said viral, if he gets worse to take him to hospital.
He has been sleepy all day, coughing a lot, very hot to touch, not eating and barely drinking. Very whiney and clingy.
His temp earlier was 37. It's now at 37.8
When should I start to worry? When is a high temp classed as "too high"

It’s only classed as a fever at 38C, so based on temp you have nothing to worry about.

Ultimately, you have to trust your judgement as a parent though

Thank goodness for that! I'll keep an eye on him through the night, just worrying that it's still rising rather than dropping. Hopefully calpol begins to work soon
Thank you

Technically a fever in a child is 37.5 or above. So your first reading was no fever and your second reading is a fever. Did this only start today? I'm sure calpol will work soon, if not try nurofen but I find it helpful to write down the time and name of med for each dose between calpol is 4hrs and nurofen is 6hrs so if I need to alternate them I don't want to lose track especially if ur lacking sleep because of sick kiddy.
