Grommets and Adenoidectomy

My son is 4 (turns 5 in May). He has had sever ear infections since he was a baby, and has a really bad case of glue ear since he was about 18 months. His hearing has got worse with each hearing test, and the pressure test comes back pretty much flat. He had his first set of grommets when he was 3, and I think they did help him a bit. Once they came out his hearing problems came back. He hasn't had so many infections, but is hard of hearing and it affects him at school when trying to learn phonics etc (he is in reception).

We had a check up in January and it was decided he would need another set of grommets, but they would also remove his adenoids at the same time. Got a phone call yesterday to say his surgery will be next week.

There was talk of hearing aids if this set of grommets don't work, because the problem isn't so much the infections anymore, but his hearing loss. He has quite a bit of scar tissue from perforations.

Has anyone else been through similar, and did the adenoid removal work better than grommets alone?

Ds had glue ear from 10 weeks old with the associated ear infections.
He's never had adenoids removed, but has had grommets three times and it makes a huge difference.
It looks like he's finally growing out of it at nearly 11yo.

My dd had 9 antibiotics in 2 years before her grommets and an adenoidectomy. This was nearly 2 years ago and she's had no ear or throat infections since. I hope it's as successful for your child.

Thank you. Fingers crossed the adenoidectomy will be more successful than the grommets alone for my son!

Although he's poorly this week with a temp and cough so hoping it goes in a couple of days or they won't operate!
