Our almost 6yo DD has just been prescribed it as she isn't dry at night - we aren't bothered about her being wet but she is this is why we asked for a referral, anyway, we have done the wee measuring for a weekend and it is very clear that her bladder can hold a lot but the hormone to slow urine down at night just hasn't kicked in, they gave her the desmopressin last week and she has been very good about taking the tablets and following the rules but she is still wet each morning, the actual problem though is that after they have taken it they aren't allowed a drink and she is waking up just after 11pm desperately thirsty, I have given her a sip of water but it just isn't enough and last night she just got hideously upset and we were all up for 3 hours, I have said that tonight & tomorrow we can not have tablets as she has swimming and another activity so the hour without fluid would prove problematic, I am happy for her to not have these tablets but she really wants to be dry, I don't know what to do for her really, is this a known side effect of taking them and if so can she have a little drink if she is thirsty? It says if you let them drink they can have water retention but surely she could have a couple of mouthfuls?
