Hi everyone,

My 3yr old DS went down our full flight of wooden stairs on Friday. Phoned an amulance as he was very distressed and had clearly hurt himself. Got bluelighted to our local hospital where x Ray's revealed a small fracture in his collarbone. They also said he's probably strained his neck.

We were sent home the same day without much advice really other than to keep him topped up on pain relief. No sling either and I can't get one on him myself.

Basically he's refusing point blank to move and is in agony, even on pain relief, if I move him. Just wants to be lying slightly propped up on pillows.

Just wondering if anyone has had their child go through this and how long it took before their pain started to ease? And how long before they started moving around and playing again?

Finding it so hard seeing him like this Sad

Thank you in advance x

Dsis broke her collar bone as a child. She was back out on the street playing the same day (and she's not particularly stoic). She did have a sling but I'm guessing that might be very uncomfortable for your ds if his neck is hurt.

Is he very bruised? Where exactly is he hurting - neck, shoulder, ribs? He does sound very sore above and beyond the pain of a broken collar bone.

So sorry to hear about your little one. My dd fell off an Office spinny chair, going at a fast spinning pace (!!) when she was 4. She broke her collar bone in two places. She was in intense agony for several days. Your post reminded me so clearly..she too didn’t want to move at all. Any movement hurt her collar bone area. It really is just time that can mend this. Maybe simply prop him up on sofa with things that are close by that he can play..an iPad is perfect. Tv on and lots of love. It’s so so hard to see them like this. My daughters collar bone itself didnt mend for several weeks. She had a padded sling after about Day 3 as I took her back stating that she needed some type of support. It was awful for her!!
Hope he improves soon

Nothing but sympathy. My 3yr old went down our stairs head first into our tiled hallway on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital and X-rayed but somehow came out unscathed. It was bloody awful though.

I would maybe try and book a GP appt to see if they could provide some stronger pain meds?
