Chicken pox

DS (2) has a bad dose of chicken pox, we're currently on day 5 of spots first appearing and he seems to be coping pretty well with calpol, baby piriton & virasoothe.

Today he has woken up with a yellow, sticky discharge coming out from his right ear - it doesn't seem to be bothering him but I'm having to wipe it every 15 mins or so as it's running right out of his ear and down his cheek!

Is it possible to develop an ear infection as a side effect of chicken pox? I'm reluctant to visit the GP as he's still contagious, 111 is an option but was wondering if anyone had any experience of this sort of side effect?

Call ooh. My daughter has a lot of ear infections with discharge like you describe. The puss is lighter yellow than wax

Ooh is out of ours. Where I live you get transferred by calling gp

Thanks, that was my first thought but just wanted to check I wasn't going OTT on a normal chicken pox symptom! Have spoken to them & expecting a call back with an appointment shortly
