Fever calpol not working

Hi my lb is prone to ear infections and has an appointment with the ENT next month at our local hospital. He started with a fever yesterday afternoon which persisted all last night despite meds (highest was 39) took him to docs this morning and was told its an outer ear infection this time, it's usually middle ear he gets, prescribed ear spray and told to keep up meds. Nurofen at lunch time really worked to bring the temp down but that was the last dose he was allowed in the 24hr period, he had calpol then at 4pm as the nuro wore off and it has done diddly squat, it has stayed around 38.5 the entire time, his next dose of calpol would then be due at 8pm and his next nuro cant be until 8.40pm which would start a new 24hr period it that makes sense. He's just dozed off and it's still in the 38s. Fevers tend to freak me out, sometime tell me all will be OK or they've experienced calpol being useless? Thanks

Calpol rarely works for DS

38 is not really high and you know the cause

It will be fine. Nowhere near the danger zone. Just keep giving medicine. If it gets a lot worse go back to the doctor.

On a side note Where did your panic about fever come from? (Just curious) Seems like it’s become a big thing lately. A friend of mine gets her child checked out every time his temperature is over 37.5. Even if he’s well. Fever is one of the body’s natural defences against illness.

Thank u, glad to hear calpol does very little for others dc as well, some fevers it works on and others it doesn't at all, I'd say this is maybe the 3rd fever it's not worked on (and he gets a lot of fevers so not that often).

I know it's not in the dangerous zone yet but I've always kind of thought that a fever which doesn't respond to meds is a worry regardless of how high that fever is, if it won't budge its a problem? Tbh I suffer from health anxiety due to a family trauma so fever isn't the only medical thing that freaks me out, but it is one of them. I don't know other people's reasons for being frightened of it these days iykwim.

fever is a good thing, it's what helps the body fight infection.
unless dc is in pain or lethargic, is drinking regularly (food is not that important) I would not medicate.
hope he is better soon!

Thanks brownelephant, i know I have read that info hundreds of times trying to convince myself of that very fact but I just don't think my anxiety will ever let me stay calm during times of illness. Thank you, I hope he's better soon too!
