Hi all
My DD is 7.5 and I’ve noticed a bit of a BO underarm smell when I get close to her when she is undressing for bath/bed. We don’t bath her everyday which I guess now needs to change, but I was wondering what sort of age children need to start using deidrant now? I don’t remember it being that young for me. Does this smell being present mean that she is starting puberty already? and therefore we may have to think about talking to her about periods? Feeling a tad unsure about what to do in that respect and thinking I may need to go and see my GP for some advice. Can anyone help to answer any of my questions before I contact them?

If a baby doesn't have BO but a 7/8/9 year old does, how does that not tell you it's the beginning of puberty?

Maybe because babies are not as physically active as 7/8/9 year olds Confused

Increase in sweat and subsequent BO often starts before puberty.

at first I would start with daily bath and daily change of vest/tshirt (whatever she's wearing close to her pits)
wash with soap. bar soap us best and gentle.
wash chlothes with skin contact with powder at 40 or higher occassionally. no softener but white vinegar in softener compartment helps against smelly clothes.

40 degrees will not get rid of the smell of BO. And deodorant is a perfectly safe product. All of the swivel eyed conspiracy theorising about aluminium and the like has been thoroughly debunked by cancer and Alzheimer's research organizations ie people with no vested interest in who wears deodorant. It is not harmful. It is the only guaranteed way to stop you from smelling.

And it really really won't kill you. Or your daughter.

Of course it will! DH and I wash our gym stuff at 40 degrees and it is perfectly fine
