Taking a child to a party 72 hours after antibiotics for impetigo?

Hi all - like title says my son has impetigo but has been in antibiotics for 3 days. I looked online and it says it isn't infectious after 48 hours but he still has some spots on his face. Will parents think I am irresponsible if I take him to a party tomorrow? He has been desperate to go and has been cooped up for days but I dot what people to look at him or me horribly! What do people think? Thanks.

Do not take him if he still has patches of it.

Impetigo is fucking horrible and highly contagious.

Yes you can still see some of it and couldn't dream of taking him if still in infectious stage as I know how contagious it is. Guess people just won't know that seeing him unless I explain to each and every person I see. Not much fun. Guess we will skip it and go and do something fun for the day to take his mind of it...

I thought it was no longer contagious after 24 hours of starting antibiotics?

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/03/2018 17:06

It's not contagious after 48 hours of meds. Dd would have been off for weeks otherwise..

Mookatron · 16/03/2018 17:08

It is not contagious once treatment's started but explaining it to all and sundry is a pain in the arse. And you will feel the need to explain to everyone you come across as I did at playgroup after a miserable housebound 48h once.

Yes now I have actually said the idea out loud it sounds like a ridiculous way to spend a few hours. I have messaged to cancel and will take him somewhere outdoorsy tomorrow where I might only get brief scathing looks from strangers! Thank you for taking time to respond, has helped give me clarity!!

Thank for being such a responsible parent. FWIW obviously you could have taken him as he was no longer contagious. But can completely see why you don’t want to be explaining all afternoon!
It’s so nice to read someone on here being sensible and thoughtful rather than the usual - ‘I took my kid with chickenpox to the cinema’, my kid has a high temp but I’ve sent him to nursery anyway as he’s still standing’!

Thank you applesandpears for such a nice message! Tbh I was a bit worried after I posted that I might get a barrage of abuse as you can never tell what people are going to say about your posts! Thank you. As it is it snowed pretty much day so we spent ANOTHER day in!! Aaagh! Praying to get out SOMEWHERE tomorrow! X
