I’m having an epic struggle trying to get antibiotics into my 4-year-old, the last dose some of it came out of her mouth and ran down her neck, I tried to get it back in her mouth without much success. The reason for my post is, if she is missing small amounts of the dose nearly every time, do I need to go back to the doctors for more antibiotics? As I know you are supposed to take the entire course.... thanks.

If she's not getting the proper dosage to fight whatever infection she has then I would call her doctor and ask what they would suggest, maybe a different form instead of liquid, have you tried doing it very slowly through those calpol syringe?

Honestly I don't know why she won't take it I loved the taste of amoxicillin when I was little! lol

Definitely use a syringe and have a smarty or chocolate button ready as a chaser.

I'm currently having this battle with my 2 year old - it smells like sweet?! Am using hatchimals as a bribe. It's expensive but working.

Thanks for the replies, the last dose went down fine, I tried a shopkins bribe which worked a bit better. I’m just worried about the little bits that have dribbled out here and there, does that mean we won’t have completed the course? Also, while I’m on here, would you worry if temp wasn’t budging even with calpol and neurofen? Daughter has tonsillitis and is quite bright and chatty and even moving around a lot today, she’s had really high temps in the days before, getting up to 40, but today her temp has been 38.3 so better, but medicine won’t get it below 38.1 Confused

I think the temp is a bit worrying why not just phone the doctor and ask poor thing hope she feels better soon.

I’ve just checked it again before I phoned doc and it’s down to 37.4 now, will keep an eye on it.

It depends on how many days she's been on antibiotics, it usually starts working 48hrs after the first dose. You could try ice lollies as a bribe, it will also help keep her cool.
