Scarlet fever without the rash?

Hi, there has been an outbreak of SF in my son's nursery. Yesterday he complained if a sore throat and in the evening had a temp of 39.1 we gave him nuerofen twice in the day. Temp was down today but he was given med in the morning. I took him in but they asked me to take him home as noticed 3 red spots on his cheek. Going to the doctors later but can he really have it with no temperature today and no rash? Apparently one of the other children had to go 3 times before the doctors diagnosed it. I have a 12 month old and am pregnant so hoping they will diagnose quickly if it is! Thanks for any advice x

I’d like to know this also as it is in our nursery and I’m on the lookout.

My DS was cranky for a few days (4 or 5 days) and then had a high temp the day the rash came out.

My DD had sore throat & high temp on Sunday, got told on a Monday it was viral (& that the white tongue was not drinking enough) and then came out in a mild rash on the Wed same day as her brother.

Look at the tongue - that’s often a giveaway. My boys rash started around the neck. And then later that day spread and his cheeks went bright red.

Slapped Cheek is another one where the cheeks are red - definitely get it checked out by GP as slapped cheek is slightly more worrying if you are pregnant

My DD’s temp had gone by the time the rash cam out. Both had it pretty mild

Thank you for all your responses. Doctor said she thought it was a virus as his glands are huge but temperature has gone and she said his tongue was fine. She took a swab and said to ring on Wednesday for results or call if he worsens. So guess I will just keep him off nursery and see how he goes!

Did they say they can diagnose from a swab?
