DS has had braces - blocks then train tracks - since he was about 13. He’s just turned 18 and they were removed 2 weeks ago. He had to wait 1 week for a retainer by which time he’d noticed a little movement in the top teeth. Orthodontist wasn’t concerned and told him to wear the top retainer full time for a few days then only wear at night. DS noticed bleeding when he put the retainer in but it settled down. He has been wearing full time for around 5 days then decided to just wear at night as per instructions but as soon as he put it in gums were bleeding again. It seems to me that the teeth are moving as soon as there is no brace / retainer to stop them. Is this normal? (Bottom teeth fine and only wearing retainer at night). I have of course told him to get another orthodontist appointment ASAP but just wondered what was normal.
