Onions for colds

Hi my daughter (3) has just started sniffling a bit and can see signs of congestion, and I've heard that onions help with it at night. How exactly do I prepare the onion? Like just slice in half or small slices left on a plate by her bed?
I've also put Vick's on her feet covered by socks so hopefully she's better by morning.
Thanks in advance Smile

Sounds like an old wives tale tbh

This isn’t serious is it?
My granny used to swear by onions but she was born in 19th century.

Don't know if it works but sometime told me to put sliced onions in a jar with sugar and let them sweat somewhere warm, then take the liquid.

I can't think of anything more vile than drinking sugary onions

Falconhoof1 · 21/02/2018 07:47

I know! Sounds revolting 😂

Cut it put half close to child sleeping...discard in morning. Works wonders!

gluteustothemaximus · 21/02/2018 23:27

I was forced to drink onion juice for illnesses.

Never made a difference and it was bloody disgusting.

I make my kids lovely sweet lemon and honey drinks Smile

shewolfmum · 22/02/2018 09:47

Oh yes honey and lemon is great really helps too...but cut onion is excellent

My mum tried to do this once with me- made me sleep with a bowl of chopped onions by the side of the bed when I had a bad cold. It did bugger all!

BarbarianMum · 01/03/2018 20:36

What falcon said but that's for chesty coughs. Helps bring up the phlegm nice.

One of my NCT friends makes a kind of paste with finely chopped onions and garlic and puts in on her kid’s feet overnight. Then again she did CIO with said kid at 8 weeks so I don’t tend to take her advice.
