Panicked a bit when have read possible implications of mouth breathing.... but he can breath through nose as goes to sleep with dummy?
He’s at nursery so has had a number of colds/snotty noses so not sure if it’s something he’s learned while blocked nose or more of an underlying issue.....

Anyone any experience of this and what you did?

Please don’t panic!

Dd is aged18. She has always breathed through her mouth, although we didn’t realise that was actually what she was doing until she was much older! As a baby and toddler I just thought she liked keeping her mouth open for some bizarre reason and didn’t give it any thought Blush

I’ve never thought of ‘implications’ so googled it just now .... she has absolutely NONE of the possible side effects, so please don’t worry.

At the age of 17 we got her referred to ENT to look into why she breathes this way - they say she has nasal valve collapse, which can be operated on, but is a very delicate operation and will alter the look of her nose slightly. We’re still pondering whether to go ahead with the operation.

But as for bad side effects/symptoms for her now because of how she breathes? .... only cold teeth in the winter Grin
She probably has minor issues but nothing enough to affect her massively.

Buy the book 'Close your Mouth' by Patrick McKeown from Amazon. It might well be due to a cold or the dummy and it is easy to develop a nose breathing habit in a small child assuming there is nothing structurally wrong. (GP or osteopath to check if you are still concerned) A nose breathing habit is a good one to have so worth correcting if you can.

I breathe through my mouth. If I try to breathe through my nose, my lungs barely fill up.

I thought I breathed normally until I just googled itConfused

It's winter, and they're in nursery. In the worst winter for bugs for 7 years. See how they're doing in the spring.
