I received a letter after my sons eye test today saying both eyes have reduced vision but I don’t understand the scores
RE 0.150 (6/9.5 +2 sn)
LE 0.125 ( 6/7.5 + Sn)
I will get him to an optician ASAP
but could these scores mean he will need glasses?
Thank you

Not 100% sure, but I am short sighted and have minus signs in my prescription, so guessing he may be slightly long sighted (can’t see close up too clearly). The optician will keep you right though, good luck Smile

They are not bad results at all for a 5 year old as you wouldn't expect a young child to read on the chart what an adult could. If you google snellen results for a 5 year old which are the 6/9.5 and 6/7.5 results you will see that they are on the borderline for requiring glasses. The numbers 0.150 and 0.125 are the same as the snellen just in a different format called logMAR. Hope it goes well at the opticians but I wouldn't worry too much.

that is only very slightly reduced but the logmar and Snellen scores do not tally in the figures you have quoted. Log ar scores of 0.125 and 0.150 are both around 6/7.5. This level of vision is almost at the normal level for age so there is unlikely to be a significant problem.

Yes they are borderline, don't worry too much...but get an eye exam asap.
