13yo son - just "unwell"

13yo, possibly early stages of a growth spurt (he's due one) - sleeping and eating like it's going out of fashion. Twice in two weeks has complained of feeling "unwell" - possibly tummy ache, seems to be some headache, but it's not entirely clear. Was 3 days approx two weeks ago and I got called to take him home from school today with similar complaints.

Over the three week Christmas holidays he slept an average of 11+ hours a night, and that was genuine sleep, not him up late on TV or devices etc. Often it was more and I felt the need to wake him at 10.30/11am so his body clock didn't go totally haywire.

Is this just "growing"? I know I can take him to GP, but appointments often a week or two away, minimum by which time chances are he will be ok and it's so non-specific, feels a bit rubbish turning up and just saying "he's not been feeling very well" but on the day in question is in fact, absolutely fine.

Realise not much to go on, but wondering if others have had similar vague symptoms in early teenager and whether you did anything about it or just sat it out and made sure they were well fed and rested, but still going to school!

I slept 11+ hours given the chance at that age. Still can actually. If his appetite is good then that is a good sign. The only thing I might be concerned about is his mental health. Changed to eating and sleeping habits are both signs of depression. Have you noticed anything else that may indicate depression?
