Does anyone give their kids sambucol?

Just wondered if anyone notices a difference? Since I've heard about the Aussie flu that has come over, I've started buying this for my 4 year old who attends nursery and giving on top of multi vitamin liquid, but it suggests giving up to 10 ml twice a day in winter, so in a week the bottle is pretty much gone!

Isn't it really just a very expensive vitamin C prep?

I buy it because I like the flavour and there's something a bit retro about a spoon of fruit syrup in the winter, but I really don't think it does anything.

Give it to my two. Twice daily.

I also give multi vitamins and probiotics daily too, as well as making sure they have a minimum of five a day fruit/ vegetables.

Definitely worth it IMO.

The dose is quite low and it's poor value. A better form of C is something like magnesium ascorbate, and you can get more helpful elderberry tinctures and probiotics for a similar price. Plenty sleep, low stress, healthy eating and exercise are just as important. Sugars affect the immune system a lot and overall i didn't find Sambucol worth it.

Totally read this as giving kids Sambuca 😂 suppose it might help them sleep !

DrivinHomeForXmas · 12/01/2018 07:49

I read it as sambuca too. Probably says something about us! 😂

no
dc get a vit d3 supplement, a good varied diet with lots of veg.
a small glass of kefir.
at least one hour of exercise outside each day.
enough sleep and we wash hand often.
flu jab/spray.

nothing more you can do, really.

It can be made at a fraction of its price.

Dried elderberries (found on line), water, sugar, honey, Echinacea (as an extra), all in a big pan, add water and make a syrup. Following a rosehip syrup recipe and method, instead of rosehips you use the dried elderberries.

Yes agree to find a purer elderberry ask a local herbalist for look up wellnessmama recipe! Good food state vit c...cherry is good and doesn't have negative effect on gut bacteria. Absorbic acid...sodium absorbate good for mega dosing but not every day.
