Orthodontic wire embedded in gum

Hello
Are there any people knowledgeable about orthodontics or dentistry here? My son (15) has been given brace made from attached white 'pips' with a trace wire running through them. One of the pips came off his tooth a few days ago and the dentist wasn't available to repair it (the pips are held on with white filling like material which is set with UV) The loose end of the wire seems to have been too long without the pip to hold it away and it has embedded itself into his gum. He has tried to remove it but it won't budge. I haven't tried as I am worried it could become infected. Its not hurting him but I don't know if its safe to leave it as having anything piercing the gum would seem a infection risk. Hopefully we can see a dentist tomorrow, but I don't know if to try to remove it or call a medic for advice?
Thanks
