Hi, my 11 year old daughter has a gradually increasing area of ulceration in the gums above her front teeth. It doesnt go away and only seems to affect this area. It is pretty unsightly when she lifts her top lip but it isn't painful for her and she doesn't mention it much. It been there for at least a year and I suspect she'll need braces in the near future and am worried it might aggravate whatever the problem is. She is s normal 11 year old who likes her sweets but otherwise is healthy, a normal weight, cleans her teeth twice a day & I take her to the dentist every 6 months. Neither the dentist nor the GP know what this ulceration is & they have not been able to offer me any advice but I'm worried if it isn't sorted out that it may endanger the health of her front teeth in the years to come. As no one knows what it is I'm a bit stuck but should I be asking for her to see a peridontist? I've read that this is a gum specialist but I don't even know if they exist for children in the UK. Am I just worrying too much about all this? Really appreciate your advice here.
