Hi - my baby is 11 months old, so thinking about arranging the 12 month vaccination appointment. Just checking when the right time to do this is?

can it be a couple of weeks before or after the first birthday?

when is too early and when is too late?

The doctors surgery wouldnt advise me and said it was my decision - just wondering when is safest

thanks

As far as I'm aware it can be the day after they turn 1 but not before. I had a bit of a kerfuffle as had the measles part a tiny bit early due to a local outbreak.

I'd just book them soonish after their birthday. My GP booked me the first slot after her birthday, so about 3 days after. They might not want to do them before their birthday but it's best not to delay too long as they could potentially catch the illnesses. A few days here or there won't matter.

Definitely not before - the nurse told me that if you have them before their first birthday, they have to do them again (shudder).

Brilliant thank you for your responses.

Does anyone know of any side effects or is it just the usual slight temperature raise / grumpiness?

Side effects for DS was unwell / grumpy / feverish for 24 hours or so. Then a week or so later he got really bad diarrhoea - this is a recognised side effect but doesn't effect everyone. So if I were you I'd make sure you had nothing important planned for the next two weeks or so after the jabs, just in case.

The doctors wouldn’t advise you?Confused How strange! So you’re supposed to guess? I’d be finding a different GP I think! Where I am we get something in the post telling us to book them.

thepatchworkcat · 04/01/2018 11:42

Also mine never had any side effects from any of his baby jabs.
