Bad cough and cold

Little one (7 months old) has had an awful cough and cold for 4 days now. He's hardly feeding, gone off solids, super snotty and coughing until he chokes. It's heartbreaking. GP says it's a viral infection and to ride it out but I'm now on night 4 of no sleep... any tips?

Have you tried a humidifier in his room
Near where he sleeps? You can put a few drops of baby olbas oil in. The vapours are very good especially if yourself little one has a dry cough. That couples with the obvious ones plenty fluids, medicine etc.
