Face cream for child with eczema

DD (7) has very dry eczema prone skin on most of her body. Her face doesn't have red/itchy eczema as such, and I don't usually put anything on it at all, but in this weather it has become v dry. Especially under her eyes - it's so dry it flakes, poor thing.

We use epaderm on her body but it seems too greasy for face - any recommendations? Nothing with perfumes or essential oils

Joining this thread for advice as well. DD has suddenly got some horrendous eczema round one of her eyes. OTC remedies don't seem to work.

No experience myself but reading everywhere about the Child’s Farm range being amazing. Not sure if it is or just a very successful PR campaign but it’s quite cheap so may be worth a try?

Yes to Child’s Farm, I have hideous psoriasis including my face and this stuff works amazingly. Really gentle and moisturising and does help the soreness associated with exzema and psoriasis.

Eczema*

I’ve had success with la Roche posey cicaplast repair on my kids who are 4yo and 18months old, both with eczema but I don’t want to use hydrocortisone on the face unless totally unavoidable. I also found epaderm a bit much for on the face although it isn’t as bad if you use a small amount and rub in really well.

That's interesting Sandy - I've just been given a free bottle of Child's Farm hair wash, we tried it and she didn't react. It says it's ok for eczema but I am cynical about things like that as it's highly fragranced - if it was really meant for eczema why would they put perfume in it?? Anyway would be interested to know if anyone with eczema has used it...

Child’s farm is good or aveeno or weleda

I use Aveeno lotion (the one in the big pump
bottle - not the thicker cream) on my son’s face. We also use Epaderm for his body. His face gets very dry at this time of year so I use the Aveeno morning and night. It absorbs super fast and is fragrance free etc. Made with oats so very hydrating.

And thanks adagio. I've heard good things about La roche posey but never tried it. I agree about avoiding steroid on the face, especially around eyes, as the skin is so thin there already. She just needs a good moisturiser I think

I also use it as my own body moisturiser so it lives in the bathroom and means fewer bottles kicking about.

Almond oil.

Ah yes aveeno. I'd forgotten about that one! Isn't strong enough for her body but may well work on face

Cakes, are there 2 sorts of aveeno or did I imagine that? A green one and a blue one? Which do you use?

My 3 yo DS has dry skin across his nose/under his eyes in this weather. He doesn't have eczema as such, I don't think, although suffers bouts of dry skin in different places and we had to use hydrocortisone cream on his thumb for ages. Anyhow, in a hurry a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd just dot a bit of my Aldi face moisturiser on the dry skin on his face, which has worked very well and caused no issues.

Yes there are two. We use the green one. I’ll look for a link. It absorbs so quickly and leaves no shine etc. Sounds similar to us in that it isn’t moisturising enough for his body but works a treat on his face.

The one with blue writing is a bit more intensive I think but doesn’t absorb as quickly I found so not as great for use on the face.

My DD uses Aveeno on her face and cleanses with coconut oil.

The only cream I can use on my eczema prone face is aqueous cream. Anything else gives me a terrible reaction.

Epederm cream or just use a little bit of the ointment.

Another vote for Aveeno, however I've also been watching the hype for Child farm and for £3.99 a bottle will be giving that a go.

Aveeno is affordable, but also often on a 3 for 2 at boots so I stick up when I can. Have to slather DD two times a day.
