Measles outbreak

Hi I’ve been advised by my Childcare provider that a child in their care has measles. So my LO has been exposed.

My LO has had her first MMR.

I’ve called the GP. Receptionist called and said just get in touch if LO gets poorly.

I read on an American site that LO should have the second MMR sooner rather than later. Any advice?!

Yes and no. If I remember correctly, mmr "takes" for about 80% of kids on the first vaccination and the second one is just to mop up the remaining 20%. So the chances are that, having had one dose of mmr your dd is immune to measles. On the other hand it may be best to get her revaccinated in case she ia one of the 20%. A doctor will advise.

I heard it's about 95% effective on the first dose. I was researching this recently due to the UK measles outbreak (DS has also had one dose).

If I remember correctly, as long as it's been four weeks since the last dose you can go ahead and get the second one. I'm sure my research said the same thing - that it would be a good idea to get it after exposure.

If I were you I'd make an appointment with a private clinic asap and possibly get the vaccination done there. I'd do that just to get it done quickly, and have a chance to talk to someone properly. I'm not denigrating NHS drs but they are really busy.

Of course it'll most likely be absolutely fine but I'm a real worrier so it'd be worth it for my peace of mind.
