Could I ask if your child's symptoms have gradually gone away and if so how long it took?

The left side of my DD's face had been drooping when she laughs or cries. This came on suddenly about 10 days ago. This has been checked by hospital consultant and she hasn't got a brain injury. Fluid in her ears will be checked out by audiologist. I think her symptoms will fade but just wondering how long it might take.

Took 10 days for First signs of any movement of the affected sign to return (DS was 4) and a few weeks for full movement. When he was tired his face would slip into odd expressions for the next year or so- we had to warn his school that he wasn’t pulling faces.
After a month or so though you couldn’t see any problem, and it never returned- although we were warned that having had one it could have, and he is now 22!

Good to know - thanks. Yeah I've been warning family not to be alarmed by her face!

Don't know if this is helpful but my dp has had it he's 32 and he's almost back to normal now but it's took around 4 1/2 weeks

My ds got it when he was 15 and he never recovered. He’s 27 now and it did improve over a couple of years but his left side barely moves now.

Hmm okay. I guess it's different for everyone. We're seeing the consultant for a follow up in 2 months. I'll see what she says then.

My ds should have been given anti virals (same treatment as the cold sore virus) when he first had the symptoms but wasn’t so he didn’t recover

ihatethecold - I know they didn't give my DD the steroid treatment because by the time I got her in to see a Dr (first my GP, then a&e) she had had the symptoms for 5 1/2 days (my HV said it was nothing!)
