Hi
My two year old son has what appears to be fungal nail? Have spoken to the doctor and he is due to see them in 2 weeks where they will take a clipping. Could it be anything else?

I'd say fungus too - needs antifungal of some type which I'm sure the doctor will prescribe

I know this is a very old question, but for any others that come across this in search of answers, I think this is more likely Congenital Malalignment of the the Great Toenail. I took my son to a pediatric dermatologist with very similar symptoms, and that was immediately his diagnosis. I was convinced that it was fungus also. Here is the information that the doctor gave me. He said there is nothing to do, and it will just correct itself with time.
